JewelBeetle 3D jewellery CAD training

What is JewelBeetle?

When Stuller purchased Gemvision, they moved most of their development team from Iowa to Louisiana. But not all of them. JewelBeetle was created by the software developers who stayed behind and struck out on their own.

These developers had spent years perfecting Matrix 9, and it’s no accident you can see the pedigree of Matrix 9 in their software, as well as all the lessons they learned from all that time responding to customers.

JewelBeetle’s Advantages and Disadvantages

The result is a tool that behaves like an alternative successor to Matrix 9. If you learned how to work with that former software, you already know how to use most of this program, making it one of the easiest upgrade transitions there is. That’s not to say they haven’t added their own twists onto things. For one, they use the Rhea renderer very effectively, making theirs probably the least temperamental extended rendering plug-ing currently available for fine jewellery. They also have an integrated iJewel plug-in for making renders and creating interactive models to show clients (much like the one MatrixGold is currently integrating into their new version of the software).

This means in terms of performance and price, JewelBeetle sits above Rhino and RhinoArtisan respectively, and below MatrixGold. It offers more jewellery-specific functions than Rhino, and a more elegant interface than RhinoArtisan, but lacks the complex parametric history functionality and variety of advanced tools found in MatrixGold. This makes it a good investment for Rhino-based CAD jewellers who want some time saving tools but aren’t ready to fully invest in MatrixGold.

There is more to it than just that. I wrote a Frequently Asked Questions page all about the specific strengths and weaknesses of different jewellery CAD programs relative to each other.
