Developed by 2Shapes, RhinoArtisan is a comprehensive plug-in developed for the NURBS-based CAD modeller Rhino 3D to provide a suite of jewellery-specific tools as well as an integrated way of sharing models with manufacturers and clients. It’s the youngest of the CAD programs in the Rhino family, although training for RhinoArtisan involves many of the same concepts as you would see in its sister programs Rhino and MatrixGold.
Consider RhinoArtisan as a step in-between vanilla Rhino 3D on the lower end, and JewelBeetle and MatrixGold on the upper end. Rhino is the lowest cost of these three options, but all jewellery specific activities you want to do in that software must be done by hand. MatrixGold adds a lot of additional jewellery-specific tools and parametric functionality with an efficient interface, but does so for a much higher price tag. RhinoArtisan offers several jewellery-specific tools with quite a bit of the functionality of MatrixGold at a price tag much closer to Rhino than to MatrixGold’s full price. This makes it in practice a good investment for Rhino-based CAD jewellers who want some time saving tools but aren’t ready to fully invest in MatrixGold.
There is more to it than just that. I wrote a Frequently Asked Questions page all about the specific strengths and weaknesses of different jewellery CAD programs relative to each other.
