Introducing the new Panther 3D jewellery plug-in for Rhino

6 January, 2020

It looks as if we’re now in a very interesting time now for jewellery CAD software changes and development, where it seems like old CAD programs with major user bases disappear, and new ones appear seemingly out of nowhere. RhinoGold’s absorption by Gemvision/Stuller (and subsequent replacement with MatrixGold Essentials) left a gap in the market for a low-cost jewellery CAD plug-ins. Now, at last, we have a new low cost jewellery CAD contender by the name of Panther 3D.

Panther 3D is a new jewellery plug-in for Rhino. Produced by many of the same engineers which created RhinoGold originally, it is proof they have been busy innovating since disappearing off the radar a few years back.

In line with Matrix Gold’s move towards parametric modelling, Panther is introducing its own impressive list of interesting parametric features. They refer to it as “logic modelling”, where many of the components you make have editing features which can be changed afterwards, and adjustments to stone sizes will result in stone settings adjusting proportionally.

The website’s front page video alone is impressive enough to warrant checking out.

Perhaps the only problem I have with their software is how difficult it was to find the link to their website in Google– I kept coming up with images of Marvel’s Black Panther.

  1. That looks really interesting, I like the look of the user interface. The price tag is much more attractive than Matrixgold!
