Since it has come to my attention several students had been asking what 5-axis CNC milling for jewelllery looks like, I thought it would be good to share an excellent example of this applied technology – the NS CNC Mill.
More on CNC milling for jewellery after the break.
While I haven’t confirmed officially yet, I believe this video depicts the NS Mira-6 in action.
This particular video is 2 years old, and NS have been providing incredible hardware for more than 20 years now. But the fact remains most of the jewellery milling hardware small companies tend to buy is 4-axis (or sometimes 3-axis). 5-axis is a bit more expensive, but as you can clearly see above it is absolutely worth it for particularly sophisticated wax carving jobs.
Incidentally, NC also produce a wonderful CNC milling plugin for Rhino called JewelryCAM. While not as simple to use as GrzSoftware’s MeshCAM CNC toolpath generation software, JewelryCAM is quite a sophisticated piece of software for generating bespoke toolpaths for 5-axis CNC milling.
